OmniVision Imaging and Display Devices

OmniVision products capture, process or display images. CMOS sensors turn light into image data, CameraCubeChip modules integrate a miniature camera, and companion ASICs process the sensor output. LCOS microdisplays sit at the display end of an optical system. These products serve automotive, industrial, mobile, security and medical equipment.

Where image processing lives

The sensor, image processor and optics can be packaged in different ways.

Separate sensor and ISP

A companion processor handles the sensor output.

Light-to-image conversion

CMOS image sensors

Phone cameras need detail within a small optical module; security cameras also need usable images in low light. OmniVision CMOS sensors address these different capture conditions through pixel design, shutter behaviour and sensor format. Nyxel near-infrared technology supports cameras using NIR illumination, while colour response, dynamic range and output interface remain device-specific.

Automotive cameras and companion ISPs

Surround-view and electronic-mirror cameras face bright daylight, dark areas and flickering LED lights in the same scene. The OAX4000 companion ISP processes sensor data with HDR and LED flicker mitigation, and synchronises multiple cameras. It supports single- and multicamera architectures rather than replacing the image sensor itself.

Inspecting moving parts

Global shutter for machine vision

On a production line or in a barcode reader, the camera must capture a moving object without introducing rolling-shutter distortion. OmniVision global-shutter sensors expose all pixels together, and its machine-vision portfolio covers inspection, recognition and robotic guidance. Frame rate, illumination timing and the sensor interface define how the camera fits the machine.

Sensor and optics in a compact module

CameraCubeChip camera modules

CameraCubeChip combines the image sensor, wafer-level optics and chip-scale packaging in a miniature camera module. Products such as OVM6948 put a complete camera at the tip of a small medical catheter or endoscope. This changes the integration task from fitting a separate sensor and lens to fitting the module, its connection and illumination into the instrument.

Displaying images in compact optical systems

LCOS microdisplays

OmniVision LCOS microdisplays form images on a silicon backplane for compact projection and near-eye displays. Digital single-chip designs integrate the driver and frame-buffer functions. The panel works with the optical engine and illumination system, so resolution, panel size and frame rate describe only part of the complete display.
