Renesas EOL260012: Amkor Hakodate Closure Closes Last-Time-Buy for Select RZ and R7 Parts on 31 Aug 2026

What changed #

Renesas Electronics issued End-Of-Life Notice EOL260012 on 1 March 2026, with Revision 1 published 26 March 2026. The notice begins the EOL process on a *select* set of Renesas part numbers because Amkor Technology Japan's Hakodate factory is closing. The affected devices are those Renesas products assembled or tested at that outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) site.

Renesas is explicit that this is part-number-specific, not a whole-family discontinuation: the notice closes with *"Exact Renesas Part # — No other variation is being impacted."* So a buyer cannot assume an entire product line is dead; the impact is tied to the exact ordering code.

The key dates in the global notice (EOL260012-R1) are:

• Final Last-Time-Buy (LTB): 31 August 2026 — now closed, three days before this

article was published.

• Last Shipment (LTS): 28 February 2027.
• Shipments between LTB and LTS are Non-Cancelable and Non-Returnable (NCNR).

Two parallel notices — your LTB window depends on the exact MPN #

There are two related documents, and the practical deadline differs between them:

• EOL260012-R1 (global, Renesas Electronics): the main notice described above, with

LTB 31-Aug-2026 and LTS 28-Feb-2027.

• PLC260012-A1 (Renesas Electronics America, issued 2 April 2026): an addendum

that (i) removes some products from the discontinued list so they remain orderable (Appendix A), and (ii) removes some products already listed under PLC26005 (Appendix B). For the remaining products carried in this Americas notice, the LTB is 9 November 2026 and the LTS is 11 March 2027.

The implication for procurement is direct: depending on region and exact MPN, your lifetime-buy window may already be shut (31 Aug 2026) or still open (9 Nov 2026). Reading the attached list per part number — not assuming at the family level — is the only safe way to know which clock is running on your design.

Which parts are affected #

The complete discontinued list is attached as a PDF to EOL260012-R1 (the binary attachment does not render inline here, so open the official notice for the full set). What Revision 1 did publish is updated *"Replacement / Similar / Re-Design"* guidance for ten parts, which are a representative sample of the RZ/R7 microprocessor families in scope:

These map to Renesas RZ/A2M (`R7S910115`) and RZ/N1-class (`R9A06G0xx`) microprocessors and SoCs — devices found in industrial HMI, networking equipment and embedded control. Why buyers should care #

The LTB for the main global notice has already passed. For those MPNs, authorized new orders are effectively closed, and remaining availability exists only as inventory already in the channel, broker or independent stock — and only through 28 February 2027. Those final shipments are NCNR, so the normal escape hatches (cancel, return, reschedule) are gone.

This is an OSAT-exit-driven EOL. Amkor's Hakodate plant closure removes a specific assembly/test path, which forces component discontinuation largely independent of die demand. It is the same mechanism behind Renesas's 2022 power-module EOL (PLC21060), where a supplier's exit from a technology forced a faster-than-normal lifetime buy. For procurement teams, it is a reminder that fab and OSAT consolidation can pull a part into EOL even when the silicon is otherwise healthy.

For long-lifecycle programs — industrial controllers, medical devices, automotive and aerospace electronics — a closed LTB with no guaranteed drop-in means a redesign or second-source qualification may be required. Renesas advises working with its sales or Field Applications Engineers to determine suitable replacement devices; the Rev1 note shows the company is actively updating replacement guidance for at least ten parts.

If your design uses any Renesas part, open EOL260012-R1 and match the exact ordering code. For MPNs in the main global notice, the lifetime-buy window is gone — secure remaining stock now and verify authenticity, MSL status and date code before payment, because NCNR removes any refund path. For MPNs carried only in the Americas addendum (PLC260012-A1), you still have until 9 November 2026. Either way, begin replacement qualification with Renesas now: 28 February 2027 (global) or 11 March 2027 (Americas) is the hard stop for new shipments.
