What changed #

Analog Devices published PDN 24_0104 — "Obsolescence of ADP1876" on 20 February 2025. The notice carries three dates that now matter a great deal:

  • Publication date: 20 February 2025
  • Last-time-buy (LTB): 20 February 2026 — already closed roughly six months ago
  • Last-time-ship (LTS): 20 August 2026 — today

ADI's reason for discontinuance is stated plainly in the PDN: the device has had no demand since 2020. Critically, the PDN's material list names no replacement part — the "Replacement Part" column reads *None*. As of today, ADI will not ship new ADP1876 through the authorized channel, and the notice does not point to a drop-in alternative inside the ADI portfolio.

The part and why it matters #

The ADP1876 is a 600 kHz dual-output synchronous buck PWM controller with an integrated 1.5 V / 150 mA linear regulator. It is a controller, not a monolithic power module: it drives external N-channel MOSFETs through integrated high-side and low-side drivers. Key characteristics from the ADI datasheet:

  • Input range 2.75 V to 20 V; power-stage input down to 1 V
  • Two PWM outputs phase-shifted 180° to cut input ripple and bulk capacitance
  • Current-mode control with valley current sensing for noise immunity
  • Externally programmable loop compensation, soft start, current limit and current-sense gain
  • ±0.85% reference accuracy from −40 °C to +85 °C
  • 32-lead 5 mm × 5 mm LFCSP package (buyable model ADP1876ACPZ-R7)
  • Typical applications: networking and telecom basestations, industrial and instrumentation, consumer systems

Because it is a controller paired with a designer-chosen MOSFET stage, many boards were built around a specific external-FET selection, compensation network and board layout. That makes a "swap the IC" fix harder than it sounds — the surrounding power stage was tuned to this part.

Why buyers should care #

This is no longer a future-dated warning. The LTB window shut in February 2026, and today's LTS date means authorized new shipments stop now. The practical consequences:

  • Open purchase orders with delivery beyond today are not protected by the PDN. If a supplier is still quoting "factory fresh" ADP1876 with a 2026+ lead time, that is not an ADI-authorized last-time-buy and should be treated as secondary-market stock.
  • No replacement is named. You cannot assume an ADI controller drops in. A redesign or qualified aftermarket sourcing is the only path the PDN leaves open.
  • Counterfeit and remarking risk rises sharply for controllers that have left the authorized channel. Obsolete PWM controllers are a common target because the package looks identical and the die is hard to verify without decapsulation.
  • Production designs still using ADP1876 need a continuity decision now, not when line-down stock runs out. Six months of LTB lead time has already elapsed.

What to check before you RFQ or buy #

If you still need ADP1876, tighten the sourcing checks:

For new designs, the right move is to qualify a controller that is active and sourced through normal distribution. ADI's current dual-output synchronous buck controller families are a reasonable starting point for evaluation; whether one fits depends on your input range, phase count, current target and layout — not on the obsolete ADP1876's pinout.

Practical takeaway #

The ADP1876 lifecycle window has fully closed as of 20 August 2026. If your BOM depends on it, you have exactly two realistic paths: qualified aftermarket or obsolete stock with full traceability, or a redesign onto a current controller. Do not assume an ADI replacement exists — the PDN explicitly says none does. Make the continuity decision now, capture the exact `ADP1876ACPZ-R7` in any RFQ, and verify date code and authenticity before you buy from the secondary market.
