Marvell Data Infrastructure ICs

Marvell focuses on the data paths between compute, memory, storage and networks. Alaska PHYs and Ethernet switches connect equipment; optical and cable DSPs carry high-speed signals. Storage controllers manage drive connections, CXL devices extend memory architectures, and OCTEON processors accelerate networking and security tasks.

Signal processing along the link

Optical and electrical interconnects

AI infrastructure uses different links inside a rack and between data centers. Marvell AEC DSPs support copper connections at short reach, PAM4 DSPs serve optical data-center links, and coherent DSPs support longer optical connections. These are distinct parts of the fabric carrying data between compute nodes, switches and sites.

Access, aggregation and data-center fabrics

Ethernet switch silicon

Prestera and Link Street serve enterprise and industrial Ethernet switching; Teralynx targets data-center networks. Switch silicon forwards traffic among ports, with forwarding features, buffering and control software matched to the network layer and equipment role.

Infrastructure compute

OCTEON network and security processing

Routers, secure gateways and SmartNICs must process packets as well as move them. OCTEON combines processor cores with networking and security acceleration for those tasks, reducing the work left to general host software. Marvell custom ASIC programs address a different need: processing blocks and interfaces designed around a customer-specific system.

Host links and memory expansion

PCIe retimers and CXL devices

PCIe retimers restore signal quality along host links. Marvell CXL products address memory expansion, pooling and related compute functions, adding a different role beyond signal conditioning. Supported CXL operation depends on the host platform, firmware and software as well as the link itself.

Drive control and storage networking

Storage controllers and adapters

Marvell SSD controllers manage flash-based drives, while HDD-related devices and storage accelerators serve other parts of the storage path. QLogic Fibre Channel adapters and controllers connect servers to storage networks. Drive control and storage networking therefore use different devices and software.

The physical network connection

Ethernet PHY transceivers

Marvell Alaska PHYs connect the Ethernet MAC in a host or switch to the physical network link. The range serves different media, link rates and port arrangements. MAC-side interfaces, timing and management functions determine how a PHY fits the surrounding board.
