Samsung Formally Ends DDR4 Production: Impact on Industrial, Telecom & Embedded Markets

In April 2026, Samsung Electronics announced the phased phase-out of most legacy DDR4 memory products, with last-time-buy (LTB) deadlines ranging from October 2026 to March 2027 depending on density and package type. This includes popular parts like K4A8G165WB, K4A4G165WE, K4B4G1646E and select industrial temperature grades. While DDR4 remains a workhorse for embedded systems, telecom equipment, industrial motherboards, and legacy servers, Samsung’s exit accelerates the industry’s DDR5 transition.

The immediate consequence: spot prices for DDR4 components surged 22–28% in May 2026, particularly for 8Gb x16, 16Gb (2Gx8) and low-power LPDDR4 used in automotive infotainment. Many EMS houses scrambled to secure last-time purchases, while second-tier DRAM suppliers (Micron, Winbond, Nanya) face increased demand, albeit limited by their own conversion to DDR5 capacity. The shortage is especially acute for wide-temperature (-40 to 95°C) DDR4 modules used in outdoor base stations.
